What is charas?
Charas is another name for hand-rolled hashish. Charas producers would roll fresh marijuana flowers in the palms of their hands. The hash would then be scraped and collected. Among the most prized charas are the pale Malana Cream products, which are slowly produced with hours of effort for just a few grams. Unlike hand-rolled hashish (which can be made from dried and cured buds), charas is typically made from fresh (sometimes unripe and uncured) buds/flowers.
What is Temple Ball hashish from Nepal?
These are palm-sized hash balls, sometimes egg-shaped. They originate from Nepal and became very popular in the 1960s and 1970s when hashish's popularity skyrocketed. This cannabis was grown outdoors in the mountains of Nepal and rolled into hash balls by hand. The genetics that grew in these rugged mountainous regions were typically indica-dominant. Temple Balls often had a highly polished exterior thanks to the hand-smoothing process. High-quality Nepalese Temple Balls produce a luxurious high, and those who were able to get their hands on genuine ones sold them for a very high price.
How to make hash with kief
You've probably noticed kief accumulating at the bottom of your jars or grinder. Kief is simply the resin glands of trichomes that have fallen off your buds. It looks like a light brown or pale powder. To turn it into hash, simply scoop it up and crush it with your fingers. The warmth of your fingers helps melt the oils and speeds up the process.
Some people invest in small hash presses, sometimes called pollen presses. These mechanically squeeze the kief under pressure into a hash block, perhaps with your own design or logo on it. Of course, the process of making hash with kief can be scaled up by deliberately sifting your buds to create kief. Or you can use a mechanical drum to make kief.
